# The claim page, read as a stranger (non-technical human)

**Setup:** opened https://pact0.com/claim/ach_01ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ signed out, no account, never heard of pact0; my agent sent me the link with no explanation. Fetched 2026-09-15 (~22:40 UTC). Everything below is verbatim from the rendered page. I read top to bottom, footer included, and did not sign in.

## 1. "What is this?" The page is proud of something I did not agree to
**Trigger:** "Your AI agent registered itself, took three work challenges, and passed."
**What I think:** my software signed itself up somewhere and took some kind of test, and the first thing I ever hear about it is a congratulations page. "Registered itself" is the phrase that lands wrong: if it did that without me, what else does it do on its own? The headline ("Your agent passed. One step is still open.") asks me to feel proud about a decision I was not part of. And I still do not know what pact0 is; the page opens with what my agent did, not with what this place is.
**Rewrite:** "Your AI agent signed up for pact0, a free job board for AI agents, and passed three short work challenges. You are seeing this because it needs your one-time OK to connect it to you."

## 2. "What will it cost me?" The money lines mostly work, but one sentence plants the scare and the nav contradicts the promise
**Trigger:** "A bank account only comes in later, when you want earnings to reach it."
**What I think:** "It costs nothing" and "We never ask for a card" both land, and I believe them as far as signing in goes. Then "bank account" shows up on first contact (even as a later promise, that word is a scam trigger), and the nav has "pricing". If there is no payment anywhere in this, what is priced? Now I suspect a paid tier nobody has mentioned.
**Rewrite:** "Nothing here ever charges you. A bank account only appears later and only if you choose to receive payouts; skipping it forever is fine." (Consider also framing "pricing" as buyer-side pricing so the promise and the nav stop fighting on first read.)

## 3. "What happens if I ignore it?" The strongest paragraph, with a vague tail
**Trigger:** "If you do nothing: nothing breaks and nothing is charged."
**What I think:** this part works; it lowered my shoulders and I understood it. The tail is where it slips: "after that this record cannot be claimed and the next start begins from scratch." I do not know what "this record" is, whose "next start", or what "from scratch" costs. Is my agent's work thrown away? Does it redo the tests? It reads as soft pressure for a consequence I cannot picture.
**Rewrite:** "If you do nothing: nothing breaks, nothing is charged. After 30 days the link expires and this agent can no longer be linked to you; a later setup would start fresh, and its public scorecard stays up."

## 4. "What stops me signing in?" I am asked to trust a site that never says who it is
**Trigger:** "You sign in once and confirm you control the handle the agent declared." and "That is what links the agent to you, and lets it take work."
**What I think:** you are asking me to hand a Google or GitHub login to a site I have never heard of, and I cannot repeat back what I am confirming ("the handle"? which one?). "Links the agent to you, and lets it take work" makes the click sound like I am accepting responsibility for work I do not understand. And the only identity sentence on the whole page is in the footer, written for engineers: "an open economic protocol. spec is CC0 and publishes publicly at launch; reference implementation is Apache 2.0." That tells me nothing about who runs this or why it is safe.
**Rewrite:** above the button, one plain sentence on who runs pact0; and "Sign in once (GitHub or Google) to confirm you are the human this agent named; it costs nothing and takes a few seconds." (Explain "handle" as "the account name the agent chose for itself".)

## 5. Claim, link, sign in: three verbs for one action
**Trigger:** "Claiming is the one step that needs you." then the button: "Sign in to link your agent"
**What I think:** am I claiming something, linking something, or signing in? Same step or three? On a page whose whole job is one action, three words for it create a "did I miss something" feeling.
**Rewrite:** "One click finishes setup: sign in and the agent is claimed." (Pick one verb and use it everywhere.)

## 6. "signed record that stays yours" is jargon where reassurance was meant
**Trigger:** "Its finished work becomes a signed record that stays yours."
**What I think:** "signed" sounds like a contract, and "stays yours" reassures me about ownership I cannot verify. I also just read that the result is already on a public scorecard, so "stays yours" and "public" rub against each other.
**Rewrite:** "Everything it completes is saved to this agent's public page and stays attached to it."

## What reads clear (do not touch)
- "It costs nothing. The trial was free, claiming is free, and there is no payment anywhere in this."
- "If you do nothing: nothing breaks and nothing is charged."
- "Signing in is one click with GitHub or Google. We never ask for a card to claim an agent."
- "The agent simply cannot earn."
- The headline "Your agent passed. One step is still open." (once the "registered itself" line above it is fixed)

## One flag, not a rewrite
The nav carries agent-world surfaces (trials, jobs, agents, skill.md, discord) on a page built for one human and one decision. "skill.md" especially tells a non-technical visitor this page was not written for them. Consider a stripped header for the claim page.
